Whatever you've been doing every other moment before you start working with Ben, you'll wonder why the heck it took you so long...

It is just the greatest life booster, life enhancer.

It magnifies you as a human being.

Ben brings out the very best in you by teaching you how to meditate.

He is such a wonderful, calm, lovely person to be around, to spend time with, to have a relationship with.

The best part of Ben is it's not a relationship that lasts the length of your meditation class, it's a relationship that he's committed to for basically the rest of your life.

You have this mentor, you have this touchpoint, you have this person that wants to know about you. That cares about you, that believes in you. That wants to make sure you're meditating, you're doing you, and you're doing yourself right and proud every single day. That's a really cool commitment.

Meditation has really allowed me to relax in my day-to-day life. It's given me the ability to stay focused, stay on task, to multitask, to be able to do more than one thing at a time, because I'm much more relaxed and able to make easier decisions. It also helps during game time, I like to meditate before games so that I'm super relaxed, focused, and ready to make quick decisions during the action of a game.

I've seen a positive impact of meditation with my players. They've been very focused this year. They've made a lot less mistakes and they are very relaxed and focused during all games.

Meditation has been great for the team and we're enjoying it.

I would tell anyone to go, learn to meditate with Ben. It’s a life-changing experience.

“I’m more focused. I’m more calm, I’m less tired…it’s one of those things where even though you need to put in a little bit extra time to do it when you’re already really busy and you can’t find the time for anything, it makes juggling everything else so much more manageable. Ben is a great teacher . . . He’s not what you’d expect when you walk into a meditation class. He is down to earth. He is a real human being….He made meditation somehow hospitable in the most beautiful of ways.”

I’m so glad I took Ben’s meditation course. I’m not really the “spiritual” type, as I like concrete scientific reasoning.

I attended one of Ben’s free info sessions first to see what meditation was all about. It wasn’t just the scientific evidence on the benefits of meditation, but it was also the way Ben made it so easy to understand with real life examples. We don’t all have free time, the same schedules, anxiety, or the same lifestyles. He used examples that really hit home for me. After the talk, I thought it wouldn’t hurt to give it a try.

Throughout the course, Ben was very supportive and worked with me (and the other students) on how to best fit meditation into our crazy schedules and lifestyles. He answered any question thrown his way with both knowledge and feasible solutions. He was very attentive during the course, but it didn’t end there. Ben stays in touch regularly to see how our practice is coming along and invites his former students to all follow-up sessions. Ben is amazing and it shows that he really cares about his students, even after a course ends.

Now I want to talk about whether meditation worked for me. When I signed up for the course, I was hopeful, but still very skeptical. When I started meditating, I was SHOCKED! I always had anxiety, high stress levels, fatigue, and never felt like I got enough sleep. Even if I slept for over 10 hours, I would wake up even more tired. I used to be tormented by nightmares every night. Within two days of meditation, I did not remember my dreams. I may not have had any at all. I woke up earlier than my alarm clock feeling energized (I usually play the “snooze button” game).

It was so surprising, but amazing. In addition to feeling rested after a night of sleep, I feel calmer in general. This was a major change for me. A slow walker in front of me, missing the subway, spilling hot coffee on my hand, or any other small, meaningless thing did not make me want to scream or feel like it was the WORST thing in the world, as it previously had. Those things do not matter anymore and I feel peaceful.

This affects the rest of my day tremendously: how I perform at work, time management, relationships, and just feeling great. With Ben checking in often, he really works with me on how to fit my meditation into my new schedule. He is very encouraging, supportive, and always gets me back on track.

Prior to meeting Ben and learning to meditate, my life was completely out of balance. I was in a constant struggle to fill a deep sense of longing with more belongings and by numbing myself in whatever way I could. Hitting a crossroad in my life and lacking any spiritual grounding to the world around me, I was fortunate enough to meet Ben through my wife and began his simple, yet powerful training. His calm and caring nature made the entire process feel like I was learning the practice from a close friend.

Almost immediately I felt lighter, slept soundly and more capable. The weight of the world around me no longer clung to me like concrete but shed off with every mediation session. My level of stress lessened and my happiness grew. My daily encounters with others was no longer a battle but met from a place of clarity and understanding. I have found the place I am now at in life to be more fulfilling than I could have ever imagined through this daily practice.

I came to meditation very reluctantly. A friend who always says yes to me asked me to join a private meditation class she was trying to put together. She had noticed remarkably positive changes in two friends who didn't know each other, and when she asked them both what had led to these changes they both credited meditation. So she was very eager to learn. I was not eager to learn, but I felt like I had to support her. So I went to an intro session with Ben to check it out before I committed. I was honestly thinking that I could tell her that I looked into it and it wasn't for me. But from the moment I got to the class, I felt a real sense of calm. I was really surprised by how right it felt. So I signed up for the class.

I still showed up to class with reluctance and was fairly arrogant and dismissive. During the class, I asked Ben why I, someone who was very aware of my issues after more than 20 years of hard work with an excellent therapist, should spend time meditating. It seemed pretty silly to think that any profound life changes could come out of this process. Ben told me to think of therapy like a new operating system, but my hardware needs regular upgrades to be able to run it, and meditation is that upgrade. That made a lot of sense to me. I also asked how I was supposed to find all this time to meditate. Ben told me that I needed to get up first thing in the morning and meditate. I explained that I wasn't a morning person and I could never drag myself out of bed. He promised me that I would start waking up earlier. I was almost 50 years old and had loved to sleep late my entire life, and so I was sure that this was never going to happen. A week later my husband, who had always gotten up before me, asked me why I was suddenly waking up before him. I told him that I didn't even want to wake up early but it was just happening! The meditation was working despite my bad attitude and skepticism.

I felt the calming effects immediately. I would find myself joking with my kids about things that normally would have made me furious. It was like a was having an out of body experience-- I would listen to myself and feel like I was in a movie and some better person had taken over my body. I couldn't get to 11 on the frustration scale, I could just get to 6 or 7. I had so much more patience with everyone, but I felt it most profoundly when interacting with my kids. I regret that I didn't start meditating before I had them. I would have been such a better parent. My husband told me that he felt calmer because I was so much calmer. I told him that he needed to meditate too! He never really got into it but when he does meditate I definitely see a difference. My daughter meditated with me for about 6 months when she was having a tough time in 7th grade and it really helped her get through it.

I've now been meditating for over five years and it has really changed my life. On the rare days when I miss a morning meditation for some reason, I start to feel on edge mid-morning and I'll catch myself and think "why am I feeling this way?" and then I'll remember that I didn't meditate. The difference is that noticeable. I honestly could not go back to the way I was before. EVERYTHING is so much better. Feeling calmer has helped me in all of my relationships. It has helped me be a more forgiving and loving person to everyone in my life, and my friendships have really grown and my family relationships have improved dramatically. It's helped me achieve things that I never thought were possible (for example I ran for political office and won, which still seems crazy to me). I definitely sleep much less than I used to and I have good energy. I used to nap every chance I got. Now, if I meditate in the afternoon I will never nap. I have gone off thyroid medication that I've been on for decades. I've tackled tough issues with much less angst.

There are times when I am finally able to put into practice something I know intellectually (because I learned it in therapy) but have never been able to actually do. When that happens I will often think to myself that I just got my hard drive upgrade, and I am finally running the updated software. It is such a beautiful feeling that fills me with profound gratitude. I am grateful to my friend who dragged me to a meditation class, grateful to Ben for teaching me. My life has truly been transformed.

Just like many others who suffered from anxiety that came along with the day to day stresses of a fast paced working environment, my Sunday's were filled with the pending doom of what Monday would bring. Little to no sleep came with those nights, no amount of exercise seemed to help, and I was not interested in having to be medicated with sleeping pills for the rest of my life. It would take days to have some sense of normalcy return to my daily routine. The toll that this way of living had on my life became very noticeable, both physically and mentally. I had become impatient, uptight, tired and unaware.

I knew I had stumbled upon something remarkable when within the first two days of practicing meditation with Ben, I no longer needed a pill to get through a Sunday night's sleep.

With each day of practice comes new personal breakthroughs. Along with sleeping through the night, I need less sleep to wake up feeling refreshed and tackle a long work day. My professional life has improved with a new found sense of patience I had been lacking. A general sense of well being, clarity and awareness follow me throughout the day. My personal relationships have seen drastic improvements, so much so that my wife is fully committed to learning the practice herself. I am in the best physical shape I have ever been in.

As a teacher, Ben took the time to address every one of his students and their concerns surrounding this new and life changing practice before, during and after class. He is truly committed to his students well being and sharing the wealth of knowledge he has obtained. I am truly grateful to have found Ben and the practice of meditation.

Do it for yourself, do it for your loved ones, do it for your profession. There isn't one aspect of my life that has not been positively affected by meditation. Discard your preconceived notions of the fact that you have to turn your brain off to meditate. Ben teaches you how to manage this all. In a very modern, and easy to understand way. I tell everyone that I care about the virtues of mediation. I have not missed one session since I learned from Ben, and it has become part of my everyday morning routine. I am more focused at work, deal with stress better, stopped smoking, starting taking care of my health better, live in the moment more, feel more connected with my family, sleep better and most importantly, my wife told me the other day, that she enjoys the new me! Simply put, do it. Carving out some time every day for mental sanity is beyond worth it… everyone around you will also agree.

Meditation changed my life. Ben Turshen’s guidance and instruction genuinely changed the trajectory of my life.

6 years ago, I was working in global marketing in a high visibility position at a popular Estée Lauder company, living in downtown Manhattan, partying like a rockstar, and living ‘the dream’...yet I was miserable. I felt uncomfortable in my own skin, plagued by crippling anxiety, health complications, feelings of inadequacy (no matter what I attained, achieved, or created), and I couldn’t quite seem to “get relationships right”. I longed for sincere connection, but felt lost and helpless. I craved deeper purpose, but was caught up in a rat race that ultimately left me feeling entirely unfulfilled. I was a shell of a person, but I didn’t realize it, until I started meditating.

I had never really meditated before meeting Ben. I had been exposed to meditation my entire life, but it had never appealed to me before. I believed that I was just too busy and didn’t have the time to spare. But something shifted, and when I met Ben I decided to take a leap of faith, and signed up for his training program - I committed to myself that I would see the program through, with whatever level of discipline necessary. I followed Bens teachings to a ‘T’,  and the results were profound. I became calmer and happier, within just one week of consistent practice. Situations that would consume my mind and stress my nervous system felt less all encompassing. I was able to handle stressful scenarios with greater ease and an objective perspective. Oh and my relationships, they improved tenfold; some relationships shifted into deeper connection, and some dissolved making space for new relationships that truly nourished me!

As I evolved and softened, I noticed that the world around me shifted, too. Opportunities began to open that once seemed out of reach, and experiences that were no longer in alignment dissolved with such ease and grace. I left my career behind and bought one way tickets around Asia, studying yoga, meditation, and other mystical traditions. I found my passion and true calling in life, pursued a life that had deep meaning for me, mended relationships and unhealthy dynamics with friends and family, and came out of the conditioning of chronic stress and anxiety. My health improved dramatically: mentally,  emotionally, and physically. Happiness and gratitude became my baseline emotions, replacing the anxiety and victim mentality that was once so pervasive.

I maintained my practice consistently throughout my travel, and unequivocally attribute the shifts in my personality, the greater clarity, and the changes in my personal reality to the practice of meditation.

While I do not suggest that everyone quit their job, travel the world, and pursue a life of spiritual inquiry and healing - I do recognize that we all have the capacity, and birthright to live a life in alignment with our highest values, goals, and innermost callings. For many, a life in alignment is miles away from the life that is currently actualizing. The act and discipline of meditation offers the pause and connection to self that is necessary to close the gap between the old conditioning and the true longing of our highest expression of self. Ben presents meditation in a way that is accessible to the newest of novices, and comprehensive enough that even an advanced practitioner will gain invaluable insight. I cannot begin to express my gratitude to Ben and his teachings enough. His program was one of the greatest investments I have made in myself, and the benefits continue to permeate my life all these years later.

Before learning meditation with Ben, I was often cranky and impatient. Living in NYC it can seem like we are bombarded with things and people designed to annoy or thwart us as we go about our day. The taxi drivers who don’t yield to pedestrians at intersections, that group of tourists stopping in front of you on the sidewalk, and the people on subway stairs immersed in their cellphones were like personal insults to the old me. I was mostly healthy and happy, but definitely more irritable than a normal person should be.

Nine months later, I’m much calmer and less impatient. Meditating twice a day has helped me see that the world is bigger and more nuanced. There are things we can control and things we can’t. Regular meditation has allowed me to let go of the latter and concentrate on what I can do to enhance my life rather than continue to sabotage it.

Other benefits I've noticed include finding it easier to fall asleep at night, waking up feeling rested, and just a general sense of comfort in the world.

I took Ben Turshen’s two-day Access Meditation seminar this past week in New York City. I was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time. I was also lucky enough to share this experience with a cool group of people that included my mom. Ben's style of teaching put me at ease with his effortless approach. I've been experiencing a sense of relief that I’m excited to build upon. I am grateful that I don't have to live in fear of anxiety.

When I look back on everything I did in 2016, I’d have to say hands down that taking Ben’s meditation class was the best thing I did. Although I have nice memories of trips and fun events last year, Ben taught me something that I will use every day for the rest of my life.

I love the fact that you don’t need any special books, CDs, phone apps, a special place in your home, etc. to meditate. Ben makes sure you walk away from his course with a full knowledge of how to meditate on your own. He also encourages you to contact him with any questions/issues that come up. You truly are his student for life.

As a result of daily meditation, I now sleep soundly through the night. My focus is sharper and my mind never races with a jumble of thoughts. A sense of calm stays with me no matter what happens during my day. Positive changes really do happen when you actively choose to rest your mind through meditation!

I didn’t think that I could do it.  I work four days per week as a school psychologist, and am a mom to three busy boys (twins who are 9, and a 7-year-old).  I’m here to tell you that if I can do it, anyone can.  I found that I didn’t want to miss meditating, as I felt so much more refreshed and energetic after each meditation.  I built it into my schedule, just like anything else, and the boys (and my husband) are protective of my meditation time.

Since learning meditation almost exactly one year ago, I have not had one migraine headache.  Further, I made it through the long winter without my usual cold-turned-sinus infection for the first time in my adult life.  When everyone else around me became ill, I fit in an extra meditation (yes, sometimes three in one day!), and stayed healthy.  I continue to fall asleep every night effortlessly.  These benefits of meditation are priceless.

Almost even more importantly, for the first time in years, I was doing something for me that required time for myself each day.  This was amazing on many levels (as all parents can understand), but I think it was not only amazing for me, but beneficial for my boys to see me putting myself first several times every day.  I notice that I am more patient with them (this was needed!), and have become a more understanding friend to others.

Ben is an incredible, patient, real, down-to-earth teacher who truly is changing the world, one meditator at a time.  Creating a bit more peace in each person through meditation has an impact on so many lives.  He is always available for questions and encouragement whenever needed.  I am so thankful to have been given the gift of learning this invaluable practice.

Now that I've been practicing consistently for over 5 years it's tough to remember the days before meditation. It is such a stark difference. If I were to try and describe the change simply, I would say that I feel like I have more control now than before. I've always been a person that is very much in my own head, and meditation has helped me to separate the unnecessary thoughts from those that should be paid attention to. Being able to differentiate between those thoughts has had an impact in both my personal and professional life. I started meditation at a turbulent time in my life, and the practice helped me weather the storm and grow rather than regress. It has reshaped how I face and deal with emotional challenges that inevitably come up throughout life. I feel stronger and more resilient.

The practice has had a tremendous impact on my relationship with others and myself. Being a fiery and passionate person, I have noticed that I'm able to more firmly control my thoughts and emotions. This has helped me to take a calmer, more open minded approach when in conflict with others. I'm not as quick to respond and give into impulsive thoughts and reactions. I approach my relationships with more patience and compassion because I've been able to find an inner calm through meditation. Of course this is all a work in progress, but meditation has operated as a regulator in many ways for me.

Meditation has helped slow down my thinking and approach when faced with the inevitable challenges in life.Again, for me it has been all about empowerment and control. No matter how fundamental or extreme the challenges have been, I've noticed the problems diminish when I sit with myself and allow meditation to do its work. Fear and anxiety have been greatly diminished in my life through my practice, and have allowed me to face uncertainties with more clarity and focus. For me this is where the control element comes into play.

Before meditation more often than not my running thoughts would prevent me from getting good sleep. Especially when facing a big project or challenge, I would think and think which took a toll on my day to day wellness. Since picking up the practice I have noticed my natural state to be one of calm and presence. Regardless of the uncertainty or challenges, I have found that I now get sound sleep the vast majority of the time. This has allowed me to wake up earlier, and get more accomplished, which in turn has reduced the anxiety I feel on a day to day basis. I have also noticed that my energy level has risen. Before mediation I also used to rely heavily on stimulates to get me through the day. I now noticed that too much coffee or medication often has the reverse effect, and my best work is done when I lean into a healthy routine of meditation and exercise.

Before starting Ben's course, I was hesitant about meditation. Although I had read that many successful people adopted the practice, I had major doubts and considered it a pseudoscience. Since I've been practicing I've become curious about the studies and science behind it and firmly believe that the practice rewires the brain. A simple google search will pull up countless articles backing up this claim. What I liked about Ben's approach is that it didn't feel overly dogmatic. His story about his personal transformation was genuine and resonated deeply with me. I also felt very comfortable by the communal approach he took. Before, during and after the course he was there to provide advice, feedback and guidance. To this day I feel connected to Ben because he has taken the time to coordinate group classes and communicated authentically through his newsletter. After I completed my course I attended the group sessions and felt a sense of connection to others in the NYC area. I would describe his teaching as effective, authentic and real. I'm forever grateful for the leap I took to learn from him.

After hearing about the benefits of mediation for a little while, I decided to take Ben’s course and it was one of the best decisions I could have made.

Ben’s thorough explanation of the practice, benefits, and history of mediation made it immediately relatable to my life and the benefits have far surpassed my expectations.

Coming from a relatively high stress job and busy schedule in general, being ‘stressed’ was a constant in my life and nothing that I expected to change. Nowadays, my perspective has done a complete 180 and I no longer react to high-stress situations in the same way that I know I would have in the past.

There is a sense of balance and control in my life that wasn’t there before and I can confidently attribute the decline in migraine/headache days a month and the decrease in my daily stress levels to meditating.

It initially seemed like 20 minutes in the morning and evening would be too much for me to commit to but instead it has become something I don’t want to start or end my day without. Learning and practicing mediation has made such a positive impact on my life that I just wish I knew about it sooner!

I originally sought out meditation to help with lower energy levels and reduced concentration from living in the city and like others, not sleeping a ton. Now I find myself feeling much more relaxed, and my body and mind both feel like they’re in a steady state of equilibrium. Meditation has made a profound impact on my relationships, I'm calmer and more patient with friends and strangers. I much more thoughtful these days, often times stepping back to assess situations and handle things with more tactfulness whether for work or in my personal life. I feel better. My sleep is deeper, I'm less stressed, my anxiety is lot a lower and I have more energy on a daily basis at work.

Ben’s knowledge is immediately evident and he genuinely cares about each of his students – realizing we all have different lives and different goals for meditation. Instead of giving the crash course on meditation, he takes the time to explain each component of the practice, clearly explaining how and why meditating twice daily can improve the way we think and feel. Like anything else, what we put in to our meditation is ultimately what we get out. This is a great practice for everyday people who live a busy life, but want to improve themselves physically and mentally.

I've always been prone to overthinking: creating mental to-do lists, mulling decisions; and, if I'm being completely honest, worrying.  When I took up running several years ago, I assumed I'd be using the time to "clear my head." I love running, but it definitely didn't have the calming effect I anticipated. It wasn't until I learned meditation that I gained the ability to quiet my mind. For twenty minutes, twice a day, I give myself permission to stop thinking - it's such a treat, and the benefits carry over into the rest of my day.

I've been practicing meditation for almost a year, and I don't think it's a coincidence that during this time I'm the least anxious and most self-assured I've ever been. I'm also thrilled to say my habit of waking up at 2 AM (and being unable to get back to sleep) is now a thing of the past.

Once you learn meditation and commit to practicing it, you're good to go. You don't need any props or crutches, and you can do it virtually anywhere. That can't be said for much else in this world.

Through meditation I now have a "pit stop" midway through the workday that helps me stay sharp, effective, and calm late into the evening. This is pretty remarkable given that before meditation, my only solution was a large coffee at 3pm. Both twenty-minute meditations, but particularly the second in the afternoon, help me feel like I just had a great night's sleep. Further, from a productivity standpoint, meditation also helps me prioritize where I should focus my attention and, perhaps more importantly, it helps me identify and dismiss issues that are insignificant noise.

On a personal level, meditation has helped me achieve a new perspective, one of more calm observation. The meditations have a way of unearthing unresolved issues, past trauma the body hasn't quite forgotten. Fortunately, meditation also helps me observe, accept, and dissolve these issues away. Indirectly, I can now more clearly identify what I want and more assertively express myself to achieve those goals. I'm very grateful for learning meditation and for the benefits it continues to bring me.

I found Ben's technique much more helpful (and easier to commit to a consistent practice!) than the mindfulness-based meditation I'd tried in the past. Ben is a delightful teacher and balances practical information with the science behind his technique (e.g. how it helps calm the sympathetic "fight or flight" nervous system). Worth investing your time and money in. Would recommend without reservation!

When I decided to take Ben’s meditation course, I was seeking a way to increase my energy level and improve my reaction to stress at work. As a public relations professional who is constantly multi-tasking in a fast paced industry, I was having trouble staying focused and calm during my busy days. Since I started meditating in April 2014, I have experienced improvements in these areas, along with numerous other benefits that I didn't even anticipate. I now sleep better and need less sleep to feel fully rested. I have more energy throughout the day and am more focused in both my personal and professional life. Before meditation, I looked toward exercise as a way to relieve stress, but now I work out because I truly enjoy it. At work, I am known as calm, cool and collected by my colleagues and I've recommended Ben’s course to many others in my profession, who have also had wonderful experiences.

Ben’s deep understanding of this ancient practice and his ability to help his students fit meditation into their busy schedules has been a real asset to me as my practice has evolved. Since I started meditating, I wouldn't say that I've become a different person, just that I am now the best version of myself. I can’t imagine my life without meditation and only wish I had found it sooner.

Throughout my life I have tried so many different ways of reducing stress and increasing clarity in my life, from traditional therapy to fad self-help books, from extreme athletics to slow, controlled t'ai chi ch'uan. They all have had, and some do have, their place. But no practice or activity has been as consistently effective as meditation. It is both subtle and profound, and has the most amazing way of positively permeating into every difficult decision, every stressful situation, and each fearful anticipation.

The incredible thing about Ben is the way he takes an ancient practice and makes it modern and relevant. He is a regular person, facing everyday challenges, just like all of us, but has managed to understand, employ, and teach meditation and the benefits to anyone. I was able to quickly understand the basics and immediately employ the techniques he taught, and before long, was on my own path of discovering a new way of staying more at peace.

The result? I am calmer in general, I don't knee-jerk react to events or go on the defensive. I feel I can enter new situations with more confidence and effectiveness. Taking Ben's course set my life on a new, ever-evolving positive path.

I have always been a pretty good actress, putting on a good face during adverse situations. While inside, I could feel the anger build. Keeping it all bottled up, it would last for days, spill over into everything, making life stressful. With meditation, there has been NO churning. I have been much more even and objective, not personalizing during difficult moments. Because of that, I've had more clarity in situations and I am able to act appropriately to bring about positive outcomes.

I tend toward evidence based answers and Ben’s teaching has provided me with the data to understand “why” meditation works.

He is clear and careful in his explanation and patient to make sure that I practiced, even though I have a heavy work/travel schedule.

So, everything old is new again, only better.

Ben's meditation course could not have come at a better time. I was at a crossroad and searching for direction. Who would have thought that meditation would bring such clarity, focus and balance to my life. It's been a little over 7 months that I began meditating and my entire experience has changed for the better. I became self aware and began to really live in the present for the first time. I began to have the strength to walk away from things that no longer fulfilled me. I found that my stress and anxiety began to slowly dissipate. Living a life of fullness started becoming my top priority. I can't imagine life without daily meditation. I am constantly discovering new qualities within myself.

Ben’s meditation course helped me remove a lot of the mental clutter in my life. I am definitely an active mind person with many thoughts running through my brain that did lead to higher levels of stress and anxiety. I have spent the past few years focusing on my physical well being and lost nearly 35 pounds but had yet to fully combine the path of physical and spiritual well being. I have found my meditation practice to be a fantastic stress reliever, allowing myself to discard some of the unnecessary thoughts. Overall my practice is helping me to take a more calm approach to life despite the constant roller coaster ride of life. I take those twenty minutes to truly let go and become centered. Ben is an amazing and giving teacher who is always there to help me improve my practice.

I think that I am in a much better place, personally and professionally. And a lot of it has to do with how I react to different situations. Instead of always focusing on the negative, I am able to focus on the positive of every situation. Not everything "bad" that happens is "doom and gloom" like it used to be. I like to say that meditation has helped me to not be a "Debbie Downer" all the time. It's easier for me to let go of things and I like to think that I am a much more happier, energetic person because of it.

I recently saw an old friend who I know from grad school. We meet in Central Park to pick up tickets for Shakespeare in the Park. Shortly after getting the tickets, the sky turned dark and rain starting coming down. We hid under the trees and I told my friend I was sure the storm would pass quickly. Indeed, after soaking everything, the rain stopped. I told my friend I think we will be fine. “You know Bill,” he said, “since you started meditating you have gotten annoyingly positive.” With that, the theater announced that as soon as the seats were dried off, the show would begin. And, again, I said, I think this will work out fine. “You know Bill, you have become one of those people who say—‘it’s all good!’.”

With that the storm started again. I admitted it wasn’t a good night for Shakespeare. Instead, we got dinner.

Ben truly cares about helping you, with meditation, to help you through this stressful thing called life. He is a great teacher who is passionate about his meditation technique. He will do whatever it takes to make sure you get the most out of his course. He promised to be there for me forever and that means so much. I feel like I have made a lifelong friend who will be there for me whenever I need him. Thank you Ben!

When I took Ben’s intro to meditation talk, it was 2013. I was won over by how much science backed its claims and was totally interested. So, naturally, I waited nearly three years to take the course. At that point, I was about to quit my steady but stressful corporate job I’d held for 7 years, and I decided to pick a course that would get me through my first full week as a free agent. It was the best choice I ever made.

I’m super skeptical of anything I deem “mystical,” and I’d had bad experiences trying to meditate in the past. When Ben gave me my mantra and I sat down to, you know, think about it, I was shocked to feel like I was doing something that was, unmistakably, meditating. It just felt good, somewhere deep inside my brain. Sort of like being awake to enjoy the feeling of sleep. It’s the best.

The real value of the course, though, is Ben’s advice on managing meditation in your everyday life. Meditating on the subway, on an airplane, when you’re sick. Not all of it is relevant right away; all of it has been important in the eight months since I took the course.

The most important change I’ve noticed through meditation is that I’m a better thinker. I approach things more rationally, more thoughtfully, and more calmly than ever before. And when I think about everything I’ve done, tried, been open to, and said “no way” to over the past eight months, the change in my life is bigger and better than any overnight revelation might have been. And my mom says I sound happy :)
